A longed for sound returns
Soldier of Love
To be honest on my first few listens this CD did not sound good compared to previous Sade work. However, I gave it a chance, after all, I paid for it. Well, now I love it. Give it time. The music is so mellow at times that you forget to listen to the rich interplay going on with the excellent artists. But, the guitar, sax, bass, keyboards, and other instruments are still being played by great musicians, and of course, Sade's vocals are unique and have a beauty of their own.

When I first heard Sade (and saw the band live) I loved the music. That music is here too. Perhaps not to the previous levels, no "Is It A Crime?" here. Yet, satisfying. My favorites on this CD are "The Moon and the Sky", "Long Hard Road", "Bring me Home", and "Skin".

Funny when I listen the the beginning of "Long Hard Road" I expect one of Bob Dylan's songs to follow, but I can't place it. Maybe it is "One More Cup of Cup of Coffee" from the Desire CD?

Lullaby For Jimi
Valleys Of Neptune
Well here we have another Jimi Hendrix album of unreleased material from later in his career. This is literally what? The fifth, sixth time this has happened following his death? Yet at the same time there's a big difference between discussing the music on this album and merely having an opinion on it. This album comes from a very awkward period in Jimi's sadly short musical career. Most of these songs feature Noel Redding but here you also see the transition to Billy Cox (the liner notes explain what happened during that time) and interestingly enough,as the bassists change you also notice a difference in in the way Hendrix's rhythmic patterns work. By the way the versions of "Stone Free" and "Fire" here are not the heavily psychedelic versions as presented previously but rather very different, more concetrated versions of the song that have a more live in the studio type of flavor to them. In speaking of Hendrix's music Miles Davis often referred to what he called "hillbilly/country music" influences in the sound Jimi had when he was with the Experience and on the album closer you can definately here that country-blues style of playing in the bridge. Now if this album had come out in it's day it would've been the Experience's follow up to Electric Ladyland and therefore followed a somewhat harder groove centered sound on "Bleeding Heart","Mr.Bad Luck" and a great and largely instrumental take on "Sunshine Of Your Love" and these also make another point for the album. Aside from the very radio friendly title song none of the songs on this album really focus as much on songwriting as the development of Hendrix's guitar work and his rhythm section. So there's more musically said here than in the composition necessarily. So if you like Jimi's music as I do and want to hear some things you never heard from him before, this is a good place to go to get it. If you are just getting into him this would'nt be the place to start either. It is,as with any pothumous Hendrix volume designed for the fan and serious collector and that should be taken duely into note before you buy this.

He was amazing.
Michael Jackson: This Is It
What a great glimpse into the life of a man no one knew but everyone talked about. He was an extraordinary person and it is shown plain as day here by his friends and associates. RIP, MJ.

Who says you can't take it with you?
American VI: Ain't No Grave
This is an excellent CD and I can't be more pleased with the entire selection of songs. Johnny has left a legacy and given us another great album that I'm certain to enjoy for years to come. Johnny has given us his witness and has stored his reward in heaven and is nowing reaping what he has sown. The Lord has given Johnny all his talents and Johnny did not bury them, but has deposited them while earning great interest. I trust that Johnny Cash is happy now more than ever for the road he has chosen. He has blessed us, too. The voice is a little cracked and old, but like fine wine it is better with age as he tugs our hearts more than our ears with this excellent selection of songs. Who says you can't take it with you... or maybe send it ahead?

Disappointed
I Dreamed A Dream
Along with everyone else who purchases Susan's CD, I fell in love with her voice from the youtube videos. However, the songs on this CD do not seem to fit her voice. There are several jazz songs and most of the songs in general do not demand the power she is so capable of delivering. I hope she will do another CD with songs that match her talent.

When I saw the movie, I knew I had to get the CD. It was sold out all over town. I found it on , ordered it, and got it two days later. What service! What a soundtrack!

Not perfect but worth checking out
Scratch My Back
I was hoping that after 8 years he would come out with an album of his own songs, but anyway... I honestly had some trepidations about an album of "covers". Of all people Gabriel certainly has enough creativity in him to beg the question if this is necessary. Nevertheless, despite a mixed track record with his previous releases, any new release by Peter Gabriel is worthy of investigation, and I was actually not disappointed. Gabriel takes a very eclectic mix of songs from very different songwriters and very much makes them his own. His performances are all great, and he seems to discover things in the songs which weren't apparent. The instrumentation - an orchestra with occasional piano, and perhaps some electronics - no drums or guitars - certainly gives the song a different spin. Among Peter Gabriel's talents is his ability to create interesting soundscapes. He is in fact a pioneer in that regard.

Nevertheless, this album has a number of flaws to it. First of all, the material is, IMO, not equally strong. There is, as other reviewers have commented, a certain "sameness", not only in the orchestration, but particularly in the tempo. The result is a couple of somewhat dull patches.

In summary, I can't give it more than an "OK" mark, mainly because I know what he can do. Certainly everything Peter Gabriel has done has at least something interesting to it, and a lot of it is great, but I cannot rank this near the top among Gabriel albums. But still, as with all his stuff, worth multiple listens.

I do very much look forward to his concert, when he sings backed with an orchestra. Peter Gabriel has always been a dynamic stage performer (with or without fox head or flower petal masks).

Great blend -The Danny we love, with modern country we can love
My Best Days
I was a HUGE Danny fan from American Idol. He has a great voice. I was nervous about a country albumn, since i am not that big of a fan of some country music. But while it is definitely country, it is also definitely Danny and his amazing voice. Love the albumn!
