Informative and inspirational Neil Peart - Anatomy Of A Drum Solo Neil Peart is one of the few people that I consider an inspiration and this DVD definitely adds to it. Unlike alot of drummers and their solo's, Neil's are actual compositions and you do not need to be a drummer or a musician for that matter to appreciate the thought process and application behind it. The DVD is meant to inspire you and not to copy him. The extras are pretty cool as well, from the arrangement details of his drumset to the soundboard quality of his counterparts tour drum solo. It seems year after year, tour after tour he just gets better and better. Just when you think he's reached that mountain top, you get this.....enjoy! Also Wingnut(endless summer 2) teaches you to surf. Awesome movie POSTED AT SUNDAY, JANUARY 04, 2009 1 COMMENTS A Phenomenal Visual Experience The Alps [Blu-ray] I love climbing and enjoy practicing it when I can. I just recently bought a BD setup with a 40" 1080p set, and have been buying movies with the intent of enjoying them for their technical awe as much as for their story, features, etc.
For photography buffs, this movie was shot in 70mm IMAX, not 120mm that is used sometimes, probably because of cost and weight. Nevertheless, the visuals in this movie are the reason for my 5 stars. This is 45 minutes of gorgeous, gorgeous cinematography. I've watched it again twice without it feeling boring or tired. I recommend it for anyone looking for some stunning imagery. The story is less compelling but creates a pleasing link between the various filming locations. At no point is it tedious; it's just not the reason anyone should buy this. POSTED AT WEDNESDAY, MAY 05, 2004 21 COMMENTS Sweet and Charming Dennis the Menace While this film does not break new cinematic ground; it was never intended to in the first place. Having said that, this is perhaps one of the most delightful, sweet and charming children's movie's I have ever seen. I say that with some amount of authority, as I have two young children, so watching children movies is something we do alot of. What makes this movie so utterly unforgettable is the sweet charm displayed between Walter Matthau (Grumpy Mr. Wilson) and Dennis (Mason Gamble). There is a unique, understated quality to this movie, where the soundtrack is rather understated and in many scenes you simply watch young Dennis or Mr Wilson (or both) interacting in gentle, silent ways. The movie has become a favorite of my 4 1/2 year old girl (Dennis-like herself) to watch before she goes to bed. We have even memorized some of the scenes and act them out at dinner, like when Mr Wilson eats a piece of chicken that has accidently become victim to Dennis' paint & wood glob. Matthau is so good in that scene; just watch his facial expressions...hardly says a word, but what a classic comedic scene. I can't rave enough about this movie, if only more movies could be made with such charm, care and love. POSTED AT SUNDAY, AUGUST 10, 2008 6 COMMENTS Too bad that it is not available in DVD A Town Like Alice This is the best TV serie ever! I am a french-Canadian and when I listened to it the first time, I did not understand very well the Australian accent, but I got used to it, and after a tenth time, I appreciate every thing of the movie! Such a beautiful story, so humane, and I love the fact that the two lovers have to get along with efforts and work, to make it successful, and all along we are not sure that it can work. I look each month if we can have it in DVD instead of a VHS, beginning to fade... POSTED AT SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 01, 2008 2 COMMENTS A fine adaptation of George MacDonald's wonderful book Princess & the Goblin Here is another film that my Aunt Sharon has in her house that I would watch whenever I visit her; and I really enjoyed it, and it became another of my favorite animated/literary films. You know I thought the animation was very well done, and I should tell you that after seeing the film, I had read the original book and also it's sequel "The Princess and Curdie" too.
I love little Princess Irene, she's cute and little her kitten Turnip too. I also love the wonderful music score, and as I always say I love a film with a good soundtrack. So overall I love this film, and it's a fine adaptation of George MacDonald's wonderful book. POSTED AT FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2010 133 COMMENTS Boring... Prenatal Yoga This video was ok. I liked that it has modifications for each trimester but found the instructor incredibly boring to listen to. I understand that it is supposed to be relaxing and calming but there is zero enthusiasm whatsoever which is off putting to me. I also found that the voiceover was somewhat out of sync with the movements of the 3 women doing the poses. What I mean is that she tells you what to do but you wait a second or two before you actually do them which is distracting. Because of this you really need to keep your eye on the tv screen because you aren't doing the poses in time with the instructions which I found takes away from the flow of the movements. The poses themselves make for a good workout so if you can overlook the instructor and make do with out of sync instructions you will be satisfied with the video. POSTED AT TUESDAY, MAY 25, 2004 18 COMMENTS Really gets you thinking Apocalypse - DVD What if the end times is soon? This movie causes you to realize the truth about the rapture and with the exception of a few little flaws (such as the folded clothes), it's a great movie. If you think it leaves off with almost no ending, then you are right, but you are wrong. This movie is a part of a trilogy, and the story continues with Tribulation and Revelation. After seeing this movie, who could not believe in God? The antichrist (definitely worthy of a lower a), is so mean to people who don't believe in his false beliefs, but Jesus doesn't want to hurt anyone. Of course, if they don't believe in him, then they can't go to heaven to be with him eternally. Jesus is a loving God, but how could someone call the antichrist peaceful? He really doesn't want peace, but Jesus wants peace and loves everyone, even people who don't understand the truth. Read the whole Bible and especially the book of Revelation to find out more about what's ahead. If you believe now, then you can be saved from the Tribulation of the future. This movie is great and gives you an understanding of what lies ahead. Will the lost world be able to believe in Jesus? Watch the movie to find out! POSTED AT TUESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2004 7 COMMENTS Okay movie Paranoid (2000) (Full Sub Dol) The movie itself is okay. It's perhaps too predictable. Not particularly memorable, although Jessica Alba fans will probably like it. Mastering of the DVD was very poor. It's fullscreen only, black levels, color, and contrast are terrible. It is closer to VHS quality than DVD quality. POSTED AT FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2009 26 COMMENTS Another German horror masterpiece. Anatomy I adore Franke Potente, and would watch anything she appeared in.
I also love horror movies, and especially enjoy foreign independent films - this fits the bill on many levels. The story may be farfetched, and the music is the cheesiest I have ever heard - but...this has become a cult favorite in our house. Strong intelligent women standing their ground against wicked medical students, and corrupt doctors filling veins with a rubberizing agent to create fresh corpses - ahh. Love it. 1 - 13876 |
